When the sun says farewell

This series of works originated from a personal ritual. After my grandfather's passing, I began photographing every special sky. Only later did I realize why: as a child, you are taught that the deceased are now in heaven, but where is heaven? High in the sky, and every time I looked at a warm, glowing sky, it felt as if my family was close by for a moment.

My grandparents are still present in my work, in the objects I use, in the questions I ask myself about what they would think of it. The colors of the sky thus become more than just a natural phenomenon.

A sunset is not just beautiful sky at the end of the day; it is also a conclusion to the day. By looking at the sky, you are invited to take a moment of rest. To pause and reflect on what there is to see. You may want to share it and capture it immediately, or take a moment for yourself and take it in.
With this series, I invite the viewer to also pause and reflect on the personal stories that the sky can evoke for us.
